Nacho Fernández is celebrating his 24th birthday today. The defender has spent his entire footballing career with Madrid after joining the club as a youth player when he was only 11 years old. After 13 years with the club he is now playing in his second season in Real Madrid’s first team squad, where he has appeared in 25 competitive matches, nine of them this season, and has won a Spanish Supercup.
Nacho, who was born on 18 January 1990 in Madrid, usually plays in the centre of defence, but his speed and good tactical positioning have allowed him to play on both flanks. He enjoyed a key role in the Castilla team which won promotion to the second division in the 2011/2012 season. He made his first team debut on 23 April 2011 in the 6-3 win against Valencia at Mestalla. His impressive progress took him to the first team last season, and this season he has strengthened his place under the instructions of Ancelotti, as well as making his international debut with the Spain team
